Past experience has shown that when wood stove efficiency is much over 80 per cent, water vapor condensation can begin to occur in chimneys, especially outside ones made of masonry. Never starve your chimney of heat.

For example: standard diameter of duct for metal stoves is usually mm, but if you have a small unit that requires only 80mm flue pipe then it would be reasonable to purchase cheaper 90mm model. Both work equally fine when installed correctly: up system works in case your ceiling is high enough for smoke not to get back down into living area; while down one has its advantage in terms of safety because there is no direct path from firebox to room where people live.
