It's not as straight-forward as you might think. By Audrey Drake Updated: 14 Jun pm. One important component for any system is undeniably backwards compatibility. Especially with consoles costing as much as they do, being able to trade-in your older model without losing the ability to play half of your collection is crucial.
This function is especially key for portables, as, even if you decide to hold on to that older system for whatever reason, no one wants to carry around more than one system if they're juggling between a new release and a last gen title. Luckily for those looking to pick up Nintendo's newest handheld, the 3DS is capable of playing your old DS games. Trouble is, it's not as easy as popping it in and playing away as usual.
This is because the 3DS has a different screen resolution than the DS did, meaning playing a DS cartridge on the system without any adjustments is completely doable, but will make your games look blurrier than they actually are. But have no fear! There's an easy fix for displaying DS games with the correct resolution. Here's our step-by-step guide on just how to do it. Neither of them worked and one even froze my system! I'm worried that I could have done permanent damage to my system as I ha to force it to shut down by holding the power button. I am hesitant to try any other DS games as I don't want it to freeze again. TreasureHunterG 4 years ago 2. Weird that something like that happened to you. IrateGameFAQer 4 years ago 3. It could be bootleg carts I haven't had issues with any DS games. I bought these all from Gamestop and am about to make a trip down there and hopefully not get too upset.
I tried some more, and so far 6 of the DS games and even 2 3ds just plain didn't work. Don't they even test their games before shipping them? I tried a DS game of my own that I know for a fact works and it did infact play, so either there's something wrong with my card reader now or they sent me a bunch of defective games. They're supposed to Especially after hearing all the horror stories with their Retro trade in program I doubt it. They certainly don't clean anything.
It seems to me the only things they test are consoles to make sure they're wiped of data. My fake plants died because I didn't pretend to water them.

I wouldn't be so mad seeing as how I can get my money back for all the ones that don't work, I'm just concerned that one of them froze my 3DS. Also, the fact that I have been having to hot swap like 10 different games this morning to see which ones work and which ones don't.
