F8 during the boot-up the computer will start up normally. I was given a desktop with Windows XP. How do I take off or reset administrator password? You can use a password reset disk or try guessing the password. Most of the admin passwords are "admin" or "administrator". My problem is I have a brand new computer, I set up 2 user accounts, yet when I try log on as the administrator it does not recognize the password of either user.

On a new set up, usually, you have to go through "first boot" at which time you are asked the administrator password which MAY be different than the user accounts that you set up. If it did not ask that question, try leaving the password blank and click OK.

You may create an additional account with Admin rights and logon with that. User accounts do not change the admin password. I tried log in on with a blank and it did not work. Weird because it's a brand new computer and all I did was create 2 user accounts, nothing else.

This is by design. It is not normal for a computer manufacturer to set an administrator password, therefore if there has been a password set on this machine then you or whoever initially set the computer up from first boot must have set the password.

If you have tried to log in as administrator without putting a password in and you cannot log in there is nothing else we can help you with here.
